An Ado Ekiti High Court has sentenced a man, Blessing Olumakinde, to death for killing his father, Benson Egunlae, over inheritance.

The state Chief Judge, Justice Ayodeji Daramola, in his judgement, held that the evidence before the court showed that the convict was guilty of murder as charged.

Justice Daramola ordered that the accused should be hanged by the neck until life went out of him. The convict, in his confessional statement to the police, allegedly admitted killing his father in a hut on his farm.

The slain father had six wives and 18 children, including the convict, who he shared some of his property to.

Dissatisfied with the share allotted to him, Blessing, 47, reportedly traced his father to his farm and attacked him with cutlass and axe, killing him before running away.

Six months after committing the murder, the accused turned himself in after which he was arraigned on one count of murder.

The state was represented by the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Owoseni Ajayi, while the convict was represented by a counsel, Morakinyo Ogele.

The prosecution had called two witnesses in the course of trial, while the accused testified in his defence.
