The latest incident in Thailand comes after a man from Phuket broadcast himself hanging his 11-month-old daughter in a livestream on the social media site before taking his own life
A dad has 'tried to hang' his five-year-old daughter on Facebook Live - in the second such incident in the country in less than a WEEK.
The latest incident in Phetchabun, Thailand, comes after a man from Phuket broadcast himself hanging his 11-month-old baby daughter in a livestream on the social media site - before taking his own life.
In the Phetchabun case, the dad is reported to have 'threatened to kill his daughter' - and indicating he was about to hang her - at their home as people watched via Facebook Live on Friday.
The father was heard to say in the video: “This rope will send me and my daughter to a better place”.
Local police are however now being criticised for letting the father, Wichai Kwanprom, off the hook without pressing charges against him.
As his daughter began to cry he let her go and ended the livestream.
Pol. Lt. Col. Kritsanapong Patsit, deputy commander of Wangpong Police, said Wichai was questioned, had his “attitude adjusted" - so they released him.
According to police, Wichai said he did not intend to hurt his daughter or himself, but rather only wanted to get his wife’s attention.
The child is now in the care of his older sister.
Wichai said that he works in Bangkok and sends his money back to his wife and daughter.
Local reports say that he had suspected his wife of cheating, came home last week to find his daughter abandoned at their home - and his wife allegedly having left to be with another man.
Wichai said that he has received support from his relatives since the incident.
He apologised to the public and promised to fight for his daughter and not repeat his actions.
Meanwhile, the family of Beta, the 11-month-old baby who was killed by her father in Phuket, mourned her death at the burial on Saturday.
