No one can bar me from Aso rock - El-Rufai meets with Buhari

The meeting is the first since President Buhari returned from his medical vacation on March 10, 2017
On Friday, April 14, 2017, the Kaduna state governor, Nasir El-Rufai joined President Muhammadu Buhari for Juma'at prayer inside the Presidential Villa mosque in the afternoon.

Thereafter, he returned with the president to his official residence. Other dignitaries at the mosque were Ogun state governor, Ibikunle Amosun as well as Attorney-General of the Federation Abubakar Malami, Defence Minister Mansur Dan-Ali and Federal Capital Territory Minister Mohammed Musa Bello.

Also Ibrahim Magu, the acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and Senators Abu Ibrahim and Kabiru Marafa were present.

This is especially surprising following the damning and blunt memo dated September 22, 2016. In which El-Rufai had suggested that the Buhari government required a surgical operation in its ranks to better run Nigeria.

Many insinuated that the memo had caused a rift between the Kaduna governor and President Buhari.

However, addressing State House reporters after meeting with Buhari, he said clearly that nobody could stop him from visiting the Villa.

According to Daily Trust, he was responding to a question on the insinuation that some powerful forces at the Presidency had barred him from visiting the nation's seat of power.

He also said: "There are people in the Villa who like me and there are people in the Villa who don't like me. It is normal."

El-Rufai also expressed disappointment that the memo he sent to the president was leaked.

Meanwhile, Governor El-Rufai had recently come under fire after he released a picture of his payslip. A Kaduna state indigene asked him to do the following to prove his transparency:

“He should make Local Government funds received from Federation Account and how he spent it public. He should also make detailed account of Security Votes public not shady report.

“We will also like to know how much of Paris Club money he got and how he spent it. Finally, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in conjunction with Dangote supported the state with huge amount of money for construction of drainages in their effort to "roll back malaria."
