Kim Kardashian felt the wrath of the Catholic League on Thursday for wearing a see-through mini-dress featuring an image of the Virgin Mary between her breasts — and hawking candles that the organization deems offensive.
“We’ve never seen any indication that Kim Kardashian venerates the Blessed Virgin Mary — she is a former porn star — so her latest headline-grabbing stunt can only be seen as exploitative,” the group said in a statement.
Kardashian’s fashion statement appeared to be a subtle advertisement of the not-quite-blessed mother of two’s new addition to her Kimoji merchandise collection: a votive featuring an image similar to those found on prayer candles of the reality starlet as the Virgin Mary herself.
The Catholic League notes the awkward placement of the candle on Kardashian’s website “between two other items for sale: a ‘fire weed sock’ and an ‘ass tray’; the former celebrates marijuana use and the latter is a photo of her bare mammoth behind.”
Kardashian’s dress was designed by Dolce & Gabbana. She wore it while filming “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” in West Hollywood on Wednesday.
The star and her family are often pictured going to church on their reality shows. Miami-based pastor Rich Wilkerson Jr. presided over her 2014 wedding to Kanye West.
A rep for Kardashian, 36, did not immediately return a request for comment.
